January Updates - 2018 https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/ January Updates - 2018 Hanger Inserts - 1 These are the now transparent inserts for the outside area of the Hanger Deck. They will Be Opaqued and painted to allow the lighting effects to show through. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735575 204735575 Interior Corridors - 1 At first I was going to just add these Light Walls and add some graphics of the corridors onto the walls. The new lighting LED strips would then light the graphics so they would be seen through the viewports. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735576 204735576 Interior Corridors - 2 This is a lower angle view of the walls. I was going to go through with the graphics, but my client requested a more 3D look to the corridors. So, I scrapped this idea and decided to build some corridors. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735579 204735579 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 1 Using strip styrene I built a section of the corridors for 2 decks. They are wide enough to be seen through the viewports. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735584 204735584 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 2 Here is a different angle of the master for the molds. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735577 204735577 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 3 This is the finished master which will now be cast into molds so I can replicate several corridors for the saucer section. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735585 204735585 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 4 I cast these pieces in clear resin so I can add a lighting effect for the bottom plates of the corridor pieces. I had to do a lot of belt sanding to get rid of all of the burrs on the ends and to thin the tops and bottoms so they will fit properly into the saucer section. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735580 204735580 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 5 To make the light panels work I first masked off the bottom tiers of the corridor walls. Very difficult to do because the mask pieces were so small. I needed to use two Xacto blades to adjust each mask. The resin made it very difficult for the light tack of the tape to stick to the casting. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735582 204735582 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 6 Because I was using the LED light strips for the lighting effects I knew because the pieces were cast in clear resin that the light would bounce through the entire casting. So, the first color I used to enhance that lighting was Flat White. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735586 204735586 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 7 Next to get rid of the unwanted light leaks I sprayed the entire front of the casting with 3 coats of Flat Black. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735581 204735581 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 8 The next color is medium Gray for the floors and cielings. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735587 204735587 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 9 Finally I hand painted the Aluminum panels for all of the corridor pieces. I also added the Red Doors. I used a flat piece of a styrene strip. I painted the strip Flat Red then cut all of the doors the same length then cemented them in place. Now I put each of these pieces into the oven for about 10 minutes at 175F then I bend them into the curved shape of the saucer, then throw them into the freezer so they harden into the curved shape. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735588 204735588 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 10 I placed the LED strips behind each of the castings and used black electrical tape to hold all of the strips against the back part of the corridor castings. This shot is from the front of the model. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735589 204735589 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 11 This shot is from the Port side aft of the saucer. You can see how the lower panels in the corridors are lit just as they are in the movies. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735591 204735591 Building The 3D Interrior Corridors - 12 Here is another view. The picture was altered so you can see the corridor lighting a little better. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735590 204735590 Upper Saucer Light Leaks - 1 To help reduce any chance of light leaks through the seam, I found this rubbery black material and cut it into thin strips and cemented it around the entire perimeter of the upper saucer piece. It should seal the two pieces well enough to block any stray light. That's it for now. More coming soon. https://www.nemvia.net/apps/photos/photo?photoID=204735578 204735578
